I checked the ocv's and they were a bit high from factory specs idled the machine down a bit to get the ocv's down to 98 been welding with it for a bit and it still breaks arc but do notice it more...

Gave the machine fresh oil and filters and fuel checked everything out seems to be ok. Don't have one of those stones so maxed it out and burt a bunch of 1/4" 7018 seems to weld alright no sputtering...

well finally got to take the machine in to the local Lincoln warranty rep and all he did was rolled the rack he said there is nothing else wrong with machine so he rolled it about a full punch mark...

You guys are right I need to take that machine in had the QC use a clamp meter to see what my amps are and I had the machine maxed out and it showed 290 amps and I know that machine is rated at 390...

Hopefully I get some time off this weekend and check over everything. If the main brushes are good could it possibly be the reactor (think thats what they call that thing behind the course dial)

Reason I'm thinking of rolling the rack is that I can't get my weld puddle to widen out. I keep turning up the course on my sae 300 its sitting around 270 and the remote is at max to burn a 3/16 7018...

Im getting that a you shouldn't roll your rack but if you want to change your arc characteristics guys change the rpm's but by doing that isn't that not screwing up the machine also

Wondering what does rolling the rack really do and why is it usually not recommended does it just change the ocv's or the arc characteristics does it change your heat settings looking for some info...

so if you turned down your idler did it affect your weld being that your rpm's are lower is it harder for the machine to burn bigger rod like 1/4" xx18

Reason I was asking was that I used to run those ranger 305g's for years good little machines but for pipelining those rangers worked ok but couldn't stack on the sides always putting a stripper pass...
