Can any of you tell me if the company you are working for has demanded you to get DOT numbers and give copy of your Insurance cards and declaration page and add them to your insurance?? and now this CSA 2010 demand you keep a log book.
We are welders not Truck drivers!!! No offense to Truck Drivers but as a welder we keep our RV with in an hours drive to the location so we may drive about 2 hours a day.

If a dot cop looks at your log book, it doesnt matter if you only drove two hours that day, because you worked for maybe ten hours welding. So that makes twelve hours total. Time worked on a job goes against how many hours your allowed to drive. Be very careful with a log book. You can get fuked real easy.

Go to the drivers license office and pick up a copy of the manual for commercial drivers licenses. It should spell out the requirements for truck size and weight where special licences etc. are necessary. Usually only over 26001 lbs. do you need a CDL. But most places now require a commercial vehicle, (one you make money with), to have DOT numbers. This is Federal not State mandated, but states enforce it. So you may also be able to get info from the State or Federal DOT web sites. As for copies of your insurance cards and such, they probably only want to know you are covered since you are contracted to them, and if something happened they could be sued if you don't have insurance to cover vehicle liability etc. I hope this gives you some ideas of where to look for more answers. sorry to contradict you but it is not federal it is by the state. only a few states make you have a dot number. texas and louisiana and mississipi and florida and georgia do not require you to have a dot number as of now. the states that are requiring these realized they could make some more money from all the out of state workers. just like the temp tags that wyoming requires you to get. just another way for them to get more money. The dot web site will tell you what states are requiring this now. hope this helps you

If it isn't Federal why does my truck have US DOT as in UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION on it?? It was a FEDERAL mandate after 9-11 to keep tabs on commercial vehicles. And yes it is nothing more than a hidden tax forced upon us by paronoid bureaucrats in high places.

it doesn't cost anything to get a dot # but once you get one you fall under dot guide lines if your under 10K lbs you don't qualify so don't worry but if you do then its game on and its all about safty and if your more than 100mi from home you better have a log book but don't ever hand it to anybody make them pick it up its a technicality they cant write you log book ticket legaly if you dont hand it to them and if they ask to see it don't say yes just leave it out for them to find and sign all your tickets in red ink this gets them voided out.
there's a fed reg that states any legal binding contract must be signed in black ink check with your local armed forces recruiter they can find you a copy of the reg
